Infectious Mansion (R18+) Review

Infectious Mansion is an adult-oriented 2D Action game in where we play as a girl investigating a shady looking mansion. Why she went in there in nothing but her undergarments, I do not know, but at least she came prepared and brought a handgun which will soon be put to use. This title hasn’t been translated into English and will be entirely in Japanese. I have no clue what was going on with the story, what I do know about it was gathered from reading the store page. Luckily, the plot is minimal, it really isn’t the focal point of our adventure.

Starting up the game, it does teach us the controls. Use the left & right cursor keys to move, up to jump, and z to shoot. We will then find ourselves in a silent, empty hallway with our gun at the ready. This game has a pretty eerie tone that will likely have you ready to fire away at a moment’s notice. After walking forward some, you will hear a hellish growl and will soon be faced with your first foe. It is quite a disturbing fleshy humanoid creature, though you won’t have time to stand around and gawk at it as it rushes toward you. At this point, you may start freaking out as you notice that your gun isn’t firing. It can only fire when you are standing still, which is a crucial bit of knowledge I wish I myself knew at that moment.

Your character possesses an unlimited amount of ammo and never has to reload. Feel free to fire away like crazy at the slightest hint of danger. Being on the cautious side and taking it slow will help you immensely. Not only do you have to stop completely to fire, but our character also needs to take a few more moments to get her posture correct before shooting. That can be devastating if an enemy is already close. The number of bullets a foe can take varies depending on what type of monster it is, yet they hardly ever travel alone. It is generally a good idea to fire a few more rounds after an encounter, just to make sure nothing is lurking just beyond the border of your vision.

There are nine levels overall. We can take up to two hits on earlier stages and that eventually increases to four by the end. Your health is showcased as first aid kits on the top left of the screen. When you are hit, you will find one disappearing. If you lose all of them, your character will find herself naked from all that damage. This is where it becomes do or die as you try to get through the rest of the stage, as it always starts you off with full health on the next. Get yourself attacked again and we will be sexually abused by whatever monster did us in. There are eight sex animations to see overall, though we can see them any time via the main menu so having it happen in-game will be far from ideal.

Losing is hardly a big deal. Despite the near horror-like atmosphere, this title is pretty forgiving. It will merely set you back at the start of the stage. Just make sure to choose the left option, which says restart in Japanese. We can only shoot left and right. This causes a few short enemies to be impossible for us to kill. In those cases, we are meant to jump over them. It can be intense doing this. These creatures move, they will not wait for us to get into a good jumping position at our leisure. When you see one approaching, slaying the rest of the foes you can not jump over becomes a real breath-holding moment. Sometimes, it can just be best to take a hit. You gain invulnerability frames briefly after being attacked and can walk past them all. They do not turn around to face you again either. If they were walking to the left when you saw them, they will continue walking in that direction indefinitely.

You do not gain any new weapons, which was disappointing. It is just you and your pistol throughout your journey to get out of this mansion, filled with Splatterhouse like creatures. I really liked how every stage always introduced a new enemy. It is a thrill to get through the level and then a back down to earth moment when you wonder how dangerous the new foe you will face will be. You get a portrait and what I assume to be a description of that stage’s new monster as we begin. This too is obviously in Japanese. Those of us that can’t read that language will be going in blind. None have any complex differences though. They have different movements, damage resistance, and speed, but at the end of the day, we will be shooting everything that moves which isn’t us.

The last level is quite something. Hopefully you have your jumping down by then. Overall, I wouldn’t call this game difficult. You just need to keep it slow, and even if you don’t, you will simply start at the same level you failed in. It took me around a half hour to fully complete. There sadly isn’t any reason to replay it again, other than for the fun of it. The gallery mode is unlocked from the start, there are no difficulty options, and it is completely linear. That fact alone left me pondering for quite some time at just what to rate this nine dollar game. Ultimately, I really liked its slower-paced gameplay, music, and horror-themed style. Some of these monster designs are pretty darn creepy as well, with all of them having unique sex animations should you be defeated. Infectious Manion is short but sweet. It makes use of its short length to constantly be introducing new elements and ends before the simple gameplay can start to lose its charm. I’d say it is worth a buy for those hentai connoisseurs looking for a solid Action title.
