Greedy Guns preview

Greedy Guns is  a mix of the Run & Gun genre and the exploration based Metroidvania genre. The developers say they were inspired by Gunstar Heroes, Metal Slug and Super Metroid. That is a very accurate description of what to expect in this game, the fast paced action of Metal Slug, the weapon selection of Gunstar Heroes and your character’s steady progression as you venture more into the unexplored, like Metroid. On top of this all they add their own flair with some bullet hell elements such as a “bomb” like power you can activate to clear your nearby surroundings from projectiles and a roll move that grants a few frames of invulnerability.

There are two characters to choose from, though they both have the same dialogue and abilities. The reason they are there is to allow two player local coop so a buddy can join in on the fun. Exploring this alien planet is still no walk in the however, your enemies are all too plentiful and more than eager the both you.

Greedy Guns enemies

From what is playable of the world right now it is very colorful and the enemy designs are suitably bizarre. Scattered around the environments are shops that allow you to buy guns with the money that your foes drop when defeated. For the demo we can get our hands on a laser gun, grenade launcher and the hilariously named “Contra Gun” that as anyone that has played Contra can imagine has a shotgun like spread. Greedy Guns humor is one of the things I enjoy most about it. It does not take itself  seriously in the slightest and the demo’s end was did give me a good laugh. There are two bosses to go up against and dying is a real high possibility. Once you die you’ll respawn on the last healing grounds that you’ve stepped on then be able to go back for round two.

Greedy Guns

With double jumping, plenty of guns, two player coop and fast paced action to show the public for their Kickstarter campaign , it is no wonder they have nearly reached their goal. It is scheduled to be released by December 2016 on the PC. They are looking in on making console versions and say they’ll have more info available in the future. I’ll drop a link to where you can get the free demo below and highly suggest giving it a try if this game got you curious.
