It’s been three years ever since we carved out our own little place on the internet and have funnily enough, already surpassed 336 reviews. We’ve reviewed all manners of titles ranging from a ton of yesteryear’s classics, to the latest & greatest releases, on our driftless mission to highlight whatever random game we get our hands on. Such a lack of focus on any one system or time period from our two-man team may seem counter-intuitive, and that may be the case, but it sure is a ton of fun! To say these past few years have been interesting would be an understatement. That spark that inspired us to join this competitive field, where great gaming websites are a dime a dozen, remains as strong as ever. We’d like to thank everyone that took the time out of their day to read our content and here’s to the many more years to come. With that being said, let’s take a look at the improvements and changes we’ve made.
4K Pictures
With the added pixel count from a 4K image, it should make images far clearer, making it easier to pick up on its small details. Of course, not all games support it, specifically some older titles so it will be a situational benefit.
Clickable Pictures
We have no intentions of wasting your precious mobile data or stressing out slow internet users by needlessly loading up full 4k pictures. They will still appear at the same 640×360 ratio in reviews, same as always. Only now clicking on them will open up that image in a new tab so you can view it in its full size, full quality format.
Lazy Loading
In short, this means that you will not be loading up the entire page at once. Images will only load once you scroll down, allowing the page to initially load up far faster due to less data being loaded. With our style of presenting a picture after every paragraph, it is a small, yet very beneficial addition.
Faster browsing in general
With some backend mumbo jumbo, we have greatly improved speeds all around, for a swifter and more responsive experience.
Removed Email Newsletter
Ever since we’ve started we have had a newsletter where you’d enter your email and we’d send you a message every week of what we’ve been up to. Fine, in theory, we choose not to automize it and write a personalized weekly message. Problem is we have often failed to do so, with it being a mostly ignored feature. Long story short, you’d be entering your email for little to nothing in return, so we choose to do away with it entirely.
Different Schedule For Content
Another thing we’ve been doing since the beginning is uploading on a weekly basis. How many times a week differed, but we’d have something out each week. For the time, it was a wise thing to do, to prove that this random website that just appeared isn’t a throwaway project or going away anytime soon with a stable schedule. The problem with this is that we grow a backlog of completed reviews, just sitting there and waiting to be arbitrarily released in a week. That’s of no use to anyone, with it getting so out of hand that our recently released Quake 3 review was a year old by that point. We’d prefer to release content as soon as it is completed from now on, which ultimately means much more activity on most weeks and some in where we possibly don’t have time to write anything.
And that’s all she wrote this time. Our focus this year has largely been on optimizing the website, offering higher quality images, and jumping into the depths to see what foul games we find now that Steam is not curated in the slightest. A good time all around truth be told, as we stumble into the obvious stinkers and even find worthwhile gems for our troubles. Repetition is the main enemy of this trade and things never cease to be interesting in our directionless march through the best & worst that video games have to offer. These three years flew by and we hope you continue to join us into the future.
