506 Another (R18+) Review

506 Another is an adult-oriented JRPG following the life of a woodsman known as Ryou. While on the job one day, he comes across a slime girl weeping in the forest claiming to have been cursed by a witch. Ryou, after complimenting her breasts like a gentleman, offers to help her in this time of need. The girl who introduces herself as “Ice” happily agrees, none too phased by his lewd comments as she is used to being naked.

Before starting his adventure, Ryou first sets off to the shop in order to buy some clothes so she can walk around in his human town. Not that many people would mind. The entire town consists of an old perverted man, a little girl, and a shopkeeper that never steps outside. As small as this town is, our journey to the witch is even tinier. We just have to cross a single screen that leads up to a boss fight. The enemy mobs before that will hardly be able to stop you from instantly reaching that point, but that boss is likely to wipe the floor with your two characters if you haven’t leveled up a bit.

It is tempting to train up your characters and go back for vengeance, yet that may not be the best choice if you want to see all the H scenes on a single playthrough. A large portion of them can only be seen if you lose to the generic enemies. They are such pushovers that accomplishing that will be quite tricky if you start leveling up, so you may as well purposely lose before you actually attempt to beat the game. You can start a new save as well, but eh, it would have just been more convenient if they all unlocked automatically once you finish the story or were provided a cheat code.

Your main fighter will be the slime, Ice. She has a far higher damage output, area of effect abilities, and much health. Ryou, on the other hand, has a ton of MP and character exclusive healing spells & buffs. They complement one another pretty well, though we are sadly never given much of a chance to put it to the use. Aside from the boss, you can merely mash the basic attack command mindlessly and come out of most any battle victorious without any other effort. You can also accidentally end up over-leveling them to steamroll the boss as well. Like it says on the store page, this is a 30 min game. It is best not to get too prepared as if this was a grand adventure.

There are a few pieces of gear you can obtain and some items to buy in the shop. It can help you if you want to face the boss without leveling, but are otherwise not needed. One of them interestingly enough does cause Ice to receive critical damage more often. There is no such item for Ryou, he will be the one unable to lose to regular monsters once leveled, defeating the point of having one on just for Ice late-game. It will be far more useful early on. Your adventure will only consist of one screen, but heading to the east of the forest will take you to a pathway leading into another. A text screen will pop up explaining that this area is simply to level grind and that monsters respawn immediately once defeated.

Due to the small size of this title, there isn’t much chance for character building. Luckily, they went the tongue in cheek approach, making everyone quite lovely goofy. It is just a fun time not meant to be taken seriously or looked into too deeply. The H scenes are what I consider to be the main selling point. They are typically brief but feature nice artwork and a solid amount of variation. Once you complete the game, you can even get a CG involving the Witch from a demon hiding around in the human village. From your room, you can see all of the art you have unlocked, and once you finish the story, also can now purchase an item to let you relive the sex scenes in full, text and all.

An interesting aspect of this title is that you can play the entire thing freely by downloading the demo. It will lack the lewd artwork and CGs, yet you can still complete it in its entirety. You can then use that save and transfer it into the paid version. You will likely encounter the same problem I did of being too overpowered to access the H scenes and have to start a new save, however. It is really cool that the dev did that, though I would recommend just buying the full game. In its current state, it just can’t stand on its own as a worthwhile video game. With the addition of the solid lewd content, it is a more justifiable purchase to spend a boring afternoon on.
